The British Psychoanalytic Institute is a not-for-profit affiliation of scholars, tutors, lecturers, researchers and clinical practitioners in the broad field of psychoanalysis and is organized as a Swiss Verein pursuant to Swiss law. 

The British Psychoanalytic Institute offers postdoctoral clinical training in the professional practice of psychoanalysis.

The British Psychoanalytic Institute is approved by the California Board of Psychology to supervise postdoctoral fellows throughout a 5-year clinical training program in psychoanalysis.  Upon completion of the residency program, postdoctoral fellows become eligible for registration as a Research Psychoanalyst in the State of California pursuant to Business and Professions Code, Division 2. Healing Arts, Sections 2529 – 2529.5 and Title 16, California Code of Regulations, Sections 1367 – 1378.

Despite the similarity in the names of comparable organizations, British Psychoanalytic Institute is affiliated neither with the British Psychoanalytical Society nor the British Psychoanalytic Council.
